Ceragon inks $28 million deal for 2 customers in Sub-Saharan Africa

Wireless backhaul solutions provider Ceragon Networks announced on Tuesday that it had signed deals worth $28 for two customers in the region of Sub-Saharan Africa. In the said deal, the Israel-based company will be providing $15 million for the expansion of one of the customer’s high-capacity network. Ceragon did not disclose the name of the companies but did state that the orders for equipment and services came from customers with existing high-capacity wireless backhaul networks.

The remaining $13 million came from the second customer requiring short and long haul solutions for their deployed networks. The mobile operators that Ceragon will be servicing is looking to expanding its 2G and 3G services to other countries. Both customers are looking to upgrading their network quality as mobile data traffic in the region surges. At present, the mobile market in Sub-Saharan Africa is one of the fastest in the world, with an annual growth rate of 44%. Some governments are also looking into internet on satellite to support similar broadband projects.
